Collections Management in Museums and Galleries combines the features
of image management and archives management. The catalogue for museums and galleries
is similar to that used for archives, although the fields are different,
keywords are likely different, and additional functions are added such as tracking
the location of works moved from storage to local exhibition space, or sent on exhibition tour.
Also, high resolution images are useful to both for on-line visual access
to the collection.
Finally, both are beginning to appreciate the commercial value of their collections
for Prints-On-Demand services to generate a new revenue stream for their institutions.
Following signing of an agreement between Cinemage and the Chinese Museum of the Terracotta Warriors
and Horses of Qin Shi Huang Cinemage added over 500 images from the museum to its collections.
They can be viewed on our World Heritage Exchange. The images include a range of subject matter
including exterior and interior views of the museum; pictures of the terra cotta figures in situ;
many pictures and details of individual figures; and images of various tools, weapons, and utensils.
Detailed descriptive information for the images
was then incorporated into the existing catalogue data for the images.
The information is in both English and Chinese, and those with Chinese character
sets installed on their computers can view the information in both languages.
