An Introduction To Giclee

Giclee is a term that was coined to describe a new process of printing visual works using digital technology. See the Story of Giclee for more detail on the history of this new term, and how it relates to our products and services in Cinemage.

The Giclee printing process has now been adopted by a growing number of artists to produce a new class of artwork called simply a Giclee. Where only one piece is produced by an artist, it constitutes an original. Some artists produce a Giclee print from a photograph and enhance it with traditional paints to create a series of similar but each unique originals.

At Cinemage we are producing Giclee reproductions from photographs of original artworks, and from landscape or portrait photography. Working then with local print, framing, and poster shops we are introducing “print-on-demand” services for Giclee reproductions. Pieces can be printed on photo papers, Fine Art paper, or canvas for subsequent matting, mounting and framing.

At the heart of the Cinemage prints-on-demand service as a proprietary Internet Engine developed by Cinemage's subsibury, Advanced Cultural Technologies Inc. The engine operates as a Content Broker, accepting works from contributing artists and distributing these to consumers as an e-commerce application paying royalties to the contributing artists. Each contributing artist can maintain his or her own collection, or contract through an affiliate NeTitles Productions Corp. to have the work done.

To gain distribution for hosted works, Cinemage has introduced:

1. PrintStations for location at framers, printers and other Dealers;

2. Retail Order Entry Stations for location in gift shops, poster shops, and commercial galleries, for works to be printed at a Print Centre and shipped to the buyer or the Retailor;

3. Direct Internet Orders for Print & Ship services by Print Centres;

4. Touch Screen Kiosk Systems for location in public museums and galleries, and major printing retailers.

Note that a customer's own works from scans or digital cameras can also be printed in Giclee.
